Sweetcombe Cottage Holidays Limited is a locally based self-catering holiday booking agency. Established in the mid 1970’s with just a handful of cottages, the company has grown to the point where we now successfully market over 150 properties. From the start we were determined to build up a reputation for offering only the very best of properties. The company has grown, but everyone involved still holds true to the combination of commitment and professionalism that is the foundation of the company’s success. Family run to this day, offering property owners a very personal approach.

We offer a fully managed service: You can put your mind at ease knowing your property is being looked after by a local family with over 30 years experience in the holiday cottage industry. All our properties are within easy reach which enables us to personally manage each property. We are more than happy to do everything from marketing your property, arranging the changeovers, liaising with the guests and organising any property management you may wish us to do.
We have a wonderful team of caretakers who present the properties to the high standard that Sweetcombe guests are used to. Your caretaker will make sure the property is clean and guest ready with the beds made up and towels placed in each room ready for our guests to arrive to. We also leave a small welcome tray at each property; you can choose what you would like to leave, whether it is a packet of biscuits, cream tea or bottle of wine. The choice is yours.
We organise a laundry service and liaise with the caretakers and laundry each week so that our changeovers run smoothly. We are more than happy to help you source laundry and towels at competitive rates.
We offer a 24 Hour call out service: Each of our guests are given a 24 hour call out number so they are able to get hold of one of us out of office hours. This allows our guests to contact us in and emergency, if there is a maintenance issue or if they just need a hand opening the key safe upon their arrival.
We use local tradespeople who we know and trust. We always ask our owners who their preferred tradespeople are and work with them directly depending on the nature of the work. We have a friendly, reliable handyman who works with us on maintenance jobs big or small.
Our cancellation procedure: We operate a cancellation scheme which means if our guests cancel, you as the owner will be guaranteed payment. (please note that not all companies offer this service)
How do we market your property?
Website: Sweetcombe had a new website launched in May 2019 and we have had many compliments about how user friendly it is and how useful it is for guests to be able to make safe online payments and bookings online 24 hours a day.
Alternative booking platforms: Many people may think that booking platforms such as Air B and B and Trip Adviser may be competition for companies such as Sweetcombe. However we can use these booking platforms to give new properties a push and if you particularly want your property marketed on these platforms. Our booking system is integrated to update the calendars on each platform including our own website so we do not have double bookings. Over 80% of booking we get each year are recommendations or returning customers but it's always good to be ahead of the game when it comes to effective marketing. We would always discuss this with you first and would explain the pro's and con's of using alternative booking platforms.
Brochure: Many people ask why we still print a brochure but the truth of it is we still have thousands of brochure requests each year. We put a lot of effort into producing an A4 high quality colour brochure that includes our property portfolio. Although the majority of guests book online or over the phone some people love to have a brochure to look through and after all it is a lovely edition to anyone's coffee table!
Social Media/ Blog: We have an active social media presence on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram where we often run competitions for our guests who help spread the word about wonderful holidays in East Devon any time of the year.
National Marketing: We use a range of well know magazines and websites to reach out to our guests who come from other parts of the UK and further afield.
Local Marketing: We work closely with local tourist information centers, Visit Devon, local estate agents and businesses so that Sweetcombe Cottage Holidays is recommended to guests and visitors to the local area.
Newsletter sign up: We are pleased to say be have over 15,000 customers who have signed up to our online newsletter. We produce these every couple of months and let our guests know what offers and events we have coming up via email.
