Goviers Cottage has been created from the upper floors of the famous Goviers China Shop which was established in Sidmouth in 1904. it was run by the building's current owners from 1983 until the shop closed in 2019. For the last 3 years they have lovingly planned, rebuilt, and repurposed this 300-year-old historic building. It now provides retail space on the High Street for 'Liberty Belle' a small furniture/gift shop and two luxury holiday apartments on the upper floors named 'Ada' (Govier) after the founder of the business and 'Jula' (Angela Govier) Ada's granddaughter who decorated and sold her pottery in the shop in the 1950s. Both apartments are accessed off the quiet pedestrian Church Lane and have been superbly fitted out, themed with images depicting the history of the business and building, mixed with stunning photographs of the Jurassic coastline taken by the owners.
