Beach House is the oldest building on Sidmouth seafront, dating back to 1790 and used as the meeting place for the gentry of the time. It has been awarded "The Blue Plaque" for historic interest. The present owner has skilfully renovated the property retaining much of its charm and character, particularly worth mentioning are the Gothic style stained glass original windows and the ornate balcony. The many quality individual shops, restaurants, tea rooms and public gardens are all within a few minutes level walk.  The coastal path is accessed at either end of the seafront. This property can be booked with Ref 39 Beach House which is the apartment above.

Accessed from the esplanade. There is an entrance hall with stairs to first floor.  An elegant spacious landing with all rooms leading off.  A sitting room with original marble fireplace. A Large stained-glass window with French doors opening onto a small balcony directly overlooking the esplanade.  Ample new for 2020 comfortable sofas for relaxing and people watching. A kitchen/dining room with integrated appliances and dining area. A cloakroom with WC and hand basin.  A double bedroom with a king size bed, quality bedroom furniture and sea views. A luxury en-suite with large shower cubicle, WC and vanity unit with hand basin.  A further twin bedroom with an en-suite luxury bathroom with a shower over the bath, hand basin and WC. Jacob's Ladder long stay car park is a 10-minute walk from the apartment. Tickets are £25.00 per week and cover all East Devon council car parks.

This flat is superb; spacious, well positioned in Sidmouth - although without parking, so unloading your luggage and then loading up again upon departure can be tricky. I also would have really appreciated at least a pint of milk to have a cup of tea upon arrival after my seven hour journey! I have stayed at this flat several times before, but never in summer. It was quite noisy on the road first thing in the morning, but you cannot fault the flats position, right next to the beach, and with the sound of the sea at night and the view during the day - you are in the centre of the hub of Sidmouth. The flat is beautifully kept in terms of cleanliness, although the stairs down to the bins shared with the flat upstairs was untidy and smelly. This is the oldest property in Sidmouth, and whilst I appreciate this, some maintenance works need to be addressed by the owner. The sea location can be harsh, and the residual damp and plaster damage is noticeable - plaster dust kept dropping on our laps! The windows also need some work; some do not close and some do not open! The loo flusher was broken in the en-suite although easily fixed. The space and location of this flat, and it’s history and furnishing deserve 5 stars, but the tired maintenance does need addressing by the owner. Sweetcombe could also perhaps consider including a basic pint of milk and such, for an added welcome?
