Top Dog Walks in Devon
The number one way to see Devon in all its glory is on foot and who better to take with you than your excitable hound!
Dartmoor– There are miles and miles of open green space for your dog to explore, from long day hikes to well-worn paths, there is something for everyone to enjoy. The helpful staff in the Visitor Centres at Postbridge, Princetown and Haytor will be able to show you the best routes and tell you where the best picnic spots are!
South West Coast Path– This stunning stretch of coastline is accessible on foot from many of our properties. There are so many beautiful sections to enjoy; one of our favourites is Branscombe to Beer, stopping off for fish and chips before your return. Or soaking up the jaw dropping 360 views from High Peak just outside Sidmouth.
River Otter– An easy amble along the tranquil river where you can spot an array of wildlife and rare birds. From the hidden gem, Secret Chalet, you can access this gorgeous trail just off your doorstep. Our favourites sections are from Tipton St John through to Otterton and Budleigh Salterton, make it as long or short as you desire but be sure to stop at Otterton Mill for a well-deserved cream tea.
The Exe Trail– This mainly flat trail welcomes cyclists, walkers, joggers and hounds on leads. It connects Exmouth through Exeter to Dawlish so you can pick sections to enjoy. Stop off in beautiful towns such as Topsham or enjoy an ice cream from Darts Farm.
Dog Friendly Attractions in Devon
Devon has brilliant days out for you and your hound. A favourite with so many trails and fun for all the family is The Donkey Sanctuary just outside Sidmouth. Or to see the stunning coastline from the sea, hop on Stuart Line Cruises, they have a selection of all-weather, year-round tours for you to enjoy with commentary along the way. If you didn’t pack your sea legs, then step aboard Seaton Tramway, enjoy 3 miles of unspoilt countryside along the Axe Valley through two nature reserves with an unrivalled view of wading bird life.
Dog Friendly Beaches
Devon has some of the finest beaches in the country; whether you want to stretch your legs and find a remote bay off the South West Coast Path or fancy a day out at one of the popular town beaches, there is somewhere for everyone to enjoy. The South Devon beaches have fairly calm waves, so the water loving dogs out there can happily enjoy natures best swimming pool. From October to May, you can walk your dog freely on all East Devon beaches. Exmouth, Budleigh Salterton, Sidmouth, Beer and Seaton all have dog exclusion areas between May and September, so be sure to check which sections are safe to visit beforehand.
Dog Friendly Cafes & Pubs in Devon
Whether you’re craving a scrumptious cake after a tiring walk or wanting somewhere dog friendly for dinner, Devon has a range of pubs and cafes that welcome dogs and their hungry owners! Some of our favourites are; The Golden Lion after a walk down the River Otter, Dukes on Sidmouth Seafront and The Point Bar & Grill on Exmouth Marina. If you’re after a picturesque country pub, our favourite is The Fountain Head in Branscombe, walking distance from The Leighs, Rosemary Cottage and Dairy Cottage in Weston. On the café scene, The Hideaway in Seaton has one our dog’s hearts, providing ‘Woof Cups’ and biscuits for the pups and delicious cakes for their humans.
